Botox for Migraines
Botox Therapeutic treatments for migraine headaches and excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) has been offered for many years with great success.
Dr. Zoia Sherman specializes in Anti-Aging Medicine and is certified and highly specialized to work with Botox Therapeutic. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sherman has been recently approved to provide a new and exciting Botox treatment to relieve persistent migraine headaches.
Botox is commonly used for wrinkle reduction as a cosmetic treatment. Botox is injected into the areas of the face where wrinkles, fine lines and frown lines appear in order to smoothen underlying muscles that cause the wrinkles. What you may not know, however, is that Botox is also approved for and widely used for purely medical purposes to control muscle spasms and treat certain neurological disorders.
Eligibility criteria for the treatment of migraine headaches are as follows:
- Chronic persistent, unrelenting migraine headaches
- Migraines occurring more than 15 days per month, AND
- Migraines that require multiple pain medications for relief
If all of the above criteria are met, most insurance companies now cover the treatment*.
The effect of Botox for migraines starts after 2 weeks and lasts about 3 months, and we will ensure regular follow up for repeat treatments.
We would ask that you first book a complimentary consultation with Dr. Sherman to determine eligibility and coverage. Please bring a completed questionnaire from your healthcare provider along with CT/MRI reports as available.
Botox Therapeutic is also now available for TMJ disorder, teeth grinding (bruxism), and teeth clenching. All of these can all cause extreme pain and disrupt daily life. Fortunately, all of these problems can be treated with Botox Therapeutic, which relaxes the muscles that control the jaw (temporomandibular) joint. In the past, traditional treatments such as dental splints or night guards were used to treat these conditions. However, Botox Therapeutic injections deliver targeted treatment to the source of the problem and allow you to enjoy your life free from pain. Botox Therapeutic treatments will last on the TMJ condition for approximately 3-4 months. Maintenance Botox Therapeutic injections are required for long-term treatment of TMJ disorders.
*An Injection Fee of $150-$250 (depending on the area treated) applies
